ISPIV Ronald J. Adrian Award – 2025 Recipient

Prof. Koichi Nishino

The 2025 ISPIV Ronald J. Adrian Award was presented to Professor Koichi Nishino of Yokohama National University, Japan, on 27 June 2025 at the National Olympic Memorial Youth Center in Tokyo.

Professor Nishino’s 1989 paper:
Koichi Nishino, Nobuhide Kasagi, Masaru Hirata, “Three-Dimensional Particle Tracking Velocimetry Based on Automated Digital Image Processing,” Journal of Fluids Engineering, 111(4): 384–391, 1989, was the first to achieve fully three-dimensional particle tracking velocimetry (3D PTV) and to apply it to turbulent flows.

This pioneering work laid the foundation for the future development of PTV and inspired generations of researchers to further advance the technique. Nishino’s contributions were remarkably prescient in anticipating the central role that 3D PTV would come to play in experimental fluid mechanics.

About the ISPIV Ronald J. Adrian Award
